Southern Regional Pipeline

The Southern Regional Water Pipeline (SRWP) is a regional infrastructure project of key importance designed to help Brisbane City, Ipswich City, Logan City, Gold Coast City and Beaudesert Shire councils manage their existing and long-term potable water requirements.

The pipeline forms part of the SEQ Water Grid. It will take the combined water from Wivenhoe Dam, Hinze Dam, the Tugun desalination plant and future water sources to where it is most needed across five South East Queensland councils.

The $800+ million project was granted Significant Project Status by the Queensland Government in September 2005. The SRWP is a fundamental part of the Queensland Government's drought strategy initiative.

Construction of the pipeline and related infrastructure started in October 2006. The Alliance began earthworks for the main project office in Bundamba in September. Construction will be completed in 2008. The pipeline will be able to incorporate new water sources, such as Wyaralong Dam and Cedar Grove Weir, into this network when complete.

Southern Regional Water Pipeline is being constructed by Southern Regional Water Pipeline Alliance, made up of KBR, McConnell Dowell and Abigroup, on behalf of LinkWater.

LinkWater is the special purpose company established to manage the project on behalf of the project owner, the Queensland Government.
