Right now South East Queensland is suffering the worst drought on record. The drought, combined with predicted climate change and population growth, is placing enormous pressure on the region’s existing water delivery system.
To address this situation the Queensland Government has brought forward key infrastructure projects, including the Eastern Pipeline Interconnector project.
The Eastern Pipeline Interconnector is a bulk water network that will transport water between Redland Shire and Logan City. The pipeline will be capable of distributing water in either direction.
It is part of the SEQ Water Grid, a regional approach to water use that will transport available water to areas where it is most needed.
The project was originally proposed to be undertaken in two sections:
Section 1: North Stradbroke Island
This section of works involves investigating the potential of extracting additional water from a new borefield on North Stradbroke Island. Environmental impact studies for this section are currently on hold.

Section 2: Redland Shire to Logan City (mainland)
This section of works involves delivering a pipeline and pumping infrastructure to link Heinemann Road Reservoir at Mount Cotton to Kimberley Park Reservoir in Logan City.

Who is responsible for this project?
LinkWater is delivering the Eastern Pipeline Interconnector project on behalf of the Queensland Government .
LinkWater has commissioned Southern Regional Water Pipeline Alliance (SRWPA) to undertake components of the project. SRWPA is a specific program infrastructure team consisting of engineering companies KBR, McConnell Dowell and Abigroup.
